How Does Amazon Know If You Have Multiple Seller Accounts?

If you once decided to sell on Amazon and now you don’t regret your decision, it’s the perfect time to talk about Amazon policies and expectations this platform has.

Amazon is one of the strictest platforms of the eCommerce reality and that can be easily explained. Because of its success and constant victories, Amazon doesn’t want to ruin its reputation and lose its loyal customers. This is why not everyone is meant to sell on this platform, and we don’t want you to become one of them! Now, let’s talk about Amazon’s policies and what Amazon DOESN’T like!

Amazon’s Must-Read Policy

One of the most famous Amazon policies is Amazon Seller Code of Conduct. Here, you will find all the fundamental elements of selling on Amazon and all the things that you definitely shouldn’t do!  Sellers who are operating their wholesale and other types of businesses on Amazon are expected to adhere to this policy while selling on Amazon. Everything that’s related to Amazon, such as listing products, communicating with customers and shipping the products should be done in accordance with this policy.

Are There Any Sanctions?

Yes, Amazon is all about sanctions and “punishments!” To keep its reputation and maintain its predominating position in eCommerce, Amazon wants to make sure everyone abides by its policies and regulations. In Seller Code of Conduct, Amazon says that “seller offenses and prohibited content can result in suspension of your Amazon account.”

Policy About Multiple Seller Accounts

There’s no separate policy that will tell you not to create two or more selling accounts. However, this is included in Amazon Seller Code of Conduct.

According to Amazon, you may only maintain one Seller Central account for each region in which you sell. However, there’s an exception! Sometimes, you can have more than two selling accounts if you have a legitimate business need to open the second one and if all of your accounts are in good standing. This means that if you meet Amazon’s requirements, you will be able to operate your businesses separately using your own two accounts.

Something about sanctions – as reported by Amazon, if any of your accounts are not in good standing, Amazon may deactivate all of your selling accounts until all accounts are in good standing.

Examples, Please!

To help sellers better understand their policies, eCommerce giant brings the following examples where the need of having two or more accounts can be easily justified. These examples include:

  • You own multiple brands and maintain separate businesses for each
  • You manufacture products for two distinct and separate companies
  • You are recruited for an Amazon program that requires separate accounts

How Amazon Understands When You Have Two Accounts

As we said, Amazon is one of the biggest eCommerce figures of our world. For this reason, it has the best software and techniques to spot mistakes that sellers usually make!

More specifically, Amazon collects all the data that you consciously and subconsciously provide, and tracks all your actions! This is the information that Amazon collects:

  • Your IP Address
  • Your Address
  • Email Address
  • Amazon User Login
  • Password
  • Cookies

As you can see, Amazon tracks everything that you do and spots everything that you try to hide! More importantly, Amazon’s software will not only track your actions but also combine them and turn it into something bigger.

To punish sellers who went the wrong way, Amazon and its AI friend spot similarities between two accounts by using the information they have and deactivate both of them!  Yes, this is something Amazon does very often, and if you don’t want to find yourself in a similar situation, you have to be prepared!
