How to Label Your Products Correctly on Amazon

Product labeling is one of the most important parts in the process of selling on Amazon. Generally, sellers are provided with two main options concerning how they can label their products. So, if you are a beginner, and do not have enough experience in this process, Amazon can label your products for a fee of $0.20 for each item. But, for most beginners, this cost can seem too expensive, and they decide to choose a completely different path and label their goods by themselves.

The Importance of Product Labeling!

More than 350 million products are currently sold on Amazon. In order to identify all of them, you should have unique identifier codes to avoid messy situations within your business. For those products which have barcodes, this identifier is the GTIN which is also known as a Universal Product Code (UPC). As a rule, this 12-digit code is placed on each product. Once you list your products on Amazon, it provides products in your catalog with its specific product identifier code, known as ASIN.  Once you are provided with an ASIN, you can start choosing which method of product labeling you are going for.

Today, we are going to bring to your attention the main aspects that you should be aware of when it comes to labeling products on Amazon; and provide you with a comprehensive guideline concerning the main labeling methods.

How to Label Products by Yourself

First of all, you should keep in mind that the main information which should be placed on your label is:

  • FNSKU (Fulfilment Network Stock Keeping Unit)
  • Name
  • Condition (New or Used)

You can use your office printer to print labels for your products, but it is better to obtain a special printer which is designed to print labels. You should print your product’s label on the smooth part of your product’s box; your main mission is to make sure that the label is scannable. Once you have finished with this process, and your product is ready to be shipped, you can also add the label “Ready to Ship” in order to avoid any issues with your products.

Keep in mind that even if you have decided to label your goods by yourself, you still have to comply with Amazon’s labeling requirements. Here is the list of Amazon’s requirements concerning the labeling process:

  • Put a barcode on every product
  • Cover other barcodes that you do not want to be scanned
  • Place the barcode on the outside of the box

Additionally, products that you are going to fulfil have to meet the following requirements:

  • Must be in new condition
  • Have only one scannable barcode
  • Have an expiration date that is clearly visible

Amazon Labels

One of the main benefits of Amazon’s labeling is that when Amazon provides your product with a certain ASIN, you should keep in mind that there are lots of sellers who sell the same product under the same ASIN. Generally, it may cause different issues within the seller’s operation. For example, you can receive an Amazon suspension, and would not be able to continue selling on this platform until the problem is solved. In this case, we suggest that you contact our partners from Got Suspended Clients who specialize in different types of Amazon suspensions and can return your selling privileges in the fastest way.

Amazon labels can help sellers avoid similar issues, by providing them with FNSKUs which are unique codes for each of the sellers. Additionally, Amazon labels give you the chance to track your inventory and avoid any errors concerning your listings.
